How does the author of your prescribed text manipulate its construction to create a significant commentary on society?
Whilst narratives archetypal to history, media and literature often promulgate one-dimensional and facile representations of our interminably complex world, Dylan Thomas’ polyphonous “play for voices”, Under Milk Wood (1954) contrastingly diverts from the myopic societal conventions imposed by these narratives in it’s distinctive structure and construction, to in essence, expand our worldview and illuminate the beauty of our diurnal realities. Through the play’s rich tapestry of multifaceted narration, dialogue, soliloquy and song, we are invited to uncover the innermost desires, dreams and peculiarities of characters in the small Welsh town, Llareggub, ultimately elucidating how the eccentricities inherent to our human nature should be cherished rather than subdued
